For a better environment and going natural, I think growing plants should be something that everyone does as much as they can! Of course it's gonna be harder if you live a small apartment and so on, but you can always have more simple things like spices and sprouts.
Here's a list of the easiest plants to grow and harvest;
♥ Tomatoes. Invest in a big and sturdy pot, put sticks for it to grow on and place somewhere safe from strong winds.
♥ Onions and garlic.
♥ Basil, melissa, mint, thyme, etc. Most of them can share the same pot. Make sure to safe from wind and have plenty of space for them to expand as much as possible. Can be kept indoors.
♥ Carrots, potatoes and beetroots if you have a garden/lawn.
♥ Sunflowers, they are sooo sturdy and give huge harvests!

If you can't afford or don't have space for a greenhouse, you can arrange a corner indoors and invest in UV-ramps, they can be bought in the reptile section in Pet Shops!
